Experts in smoking cessation led the development of this unique program aimed at motivating individuals to quit smoking. The program was designed to increase physician and patient understanding that:
- Nicotine dependence is a chronic, relapsing, addictive disease
- Successful smoking cessation may be a journey that entails a struggle of relapses and remissions
- People usually cannot quit without support
More than 11,000 individuals participated in local educational programs during the pilot phase.
Program materials included physician/payer/employer/patient slide presentations and patient motivational tools.
